In 1967, Bill saw a dance performance by the Performing Arts Workshop (PAW) at the Buchanan YMCA with security provided by the Black Panthers. The performance moved him so that he said, “The next time they perform, I’m going to perform with them!” While dancing with PAW, Bill developed his performance skills and made the connection between art and politics. Although he gave up dance to become a revolutionary, art continued to be an important part of his expression.
