About DJ QBert on the Cut:

In 2009, I attended a celebration in Oakland for Mike "Dream" Francisco's life. Many people of all ages and nationalities came together to respect of what Mike had done as a person and artist while he was with us. Legends from the Bay Area Hip Hop scene were in attendance, one being DJ QBert. As MCs were freestyling and party people were dancing, I took a moment to photograph Q's hands in action. I used that photo as reference and painted this the very next day.

The outpouring of support and love that night, 9 years after his passing, was amazing. One high point of the night for me was to see a Bboy Dad encouraging his toddler age son to dance in the center of the cyper and he did. After that, his Dad jumped right in and added his old school flavor to the jam.

If an artist can bring people together after they have passed away - that is powerful. Everything I saw that night was all for Mike. Respect is something everyone wants but few ever earn. I proudly donate this piece out of respect for Dream TDK, Rest In Power.
