Join us for an Evening of Reflection, Remembrance & Community

49 Years Since the Eviction, We Cultivate Islands of Remembrance. Join Us.

Please join us for a special commemorative program and exhibition opening. Honor the past with us as we reflect on the 1977 eviction and explore our art exhibition, Islands of Remembrance, dedicated to safeguarding history and connecting community.

Manilatown's annual commemoration of the 1977 I-Hotel eviction, brings together community members, artists, elders, educators, and cultural leaders to honor the lives, struggles, and enduring legacy of the Manong generation and the community that transformed San Francisco's most significant tenants rights event  into a living legacy.

Schedule:

6:00 PM Program

8:00 PM Candlelight Vigil

The program begins with the I-Hotel Eviction Commemoration, culminating in Manilatown's traditional candlelight vigil—a moving annual tribute to the evicted  I-Hotel residents.

Guests are invited to experience the opening of Islands of Remembrance, a multidisciplinary visual art exhibition featuring contemporary Filipino and Filipino American artists whose work explores memory, ancestry, spirituality, migration, identity, community, and cultural continuity.

Gather with us as we remember the tenants of the original International Hotel and commemorate their legacy of resistance and community.
